Individual Therapy

Gabrielle* was on the verge of giving up…

A near-constant sense of heaviness makes her body ache.

Worry is her constant companion.

The sense of isolation and loneliness is stifling.

Thoughts that circle round and round leave her feeling gutted – worthless – so tired of fighting against it all.

Wondering if it can ever change…

Gabrielle feels a tug, a question from a corner of her mind, “What if it can be better?”

That thought and the hope has company – rebounding doubt with fear filling nearly every corner of her being.

Her familiar companion whispers, “Nothing can change.”

She shakes her head, trying to toss off the thought.

A piece of Gabrielle is unwilling to stay the same…

Gabrielle takes a deep breath and begins her search, reading site after site, waiting for something to speak to her.

She wants to feel understood. Is that even possible?

She starts to lose her last bit of hope.

And then, she has an ‘aha’ moment. Could it be? She is stunned.

“That’s me.”

Gabrielle takes the first step…

She picks up the phone and then sets it back down.

Struggling to catch her breath causes anxiety to take hold.

“Dammit. No. No. No. Just call. Could you do it? Do it.”

She picks up the phone again, and this time she connects. “Hello…”

On the first day, Gabrielle…

…can’t concentrate. Gabrielle’s hands are clammy and shaking, and a pit is in her stomach.

She checks the clock again and again with thoughts of canceling swirling through her mind.

“No. Taking this step is your chance. Take it.”

Finally, the clock reads 2:00 pm, and she logs in to the site. The screen flickers to life.

Gabrielle receives a greeting with a smile and a warm hello, “It’s so nice to meet you, Gabrielle.”

Time seems to fly…

Before Gabrielle knows it, the session is over.

The questions were sometimes challenging, and sharing didn’t always come easy. But Gabrielle felt heard, and from there, her story tumbled from her lips with an ease that surprised her.

Gabrielle found acceptance and care from the eyes looking back at her. For the first time in a very long time, Gabrielle has hope.

The journey of therapy…

Gabrielle knew it would be difficult, but some days she worries it will be too much.

Her emotions are sometimes overwhelming, and old doubts tip-toe through her mind. But with encouragement, she keeps going.

Within weeks she notices a shift. The heaviness is… not so heavy. She starts to trust.

Several weeks longer, Gabrielle finds confidence in herself that she never imagined feeling. She starts to look forward to her sessions.

The connection, the conversation, the challenges, and new insights, learning new ways to think and to be, to communicate, to believe are exciting.

Gabrielle starts the next chapter of her life…

The time comes when Gabrielle knows she is ready. There is a lightness to her being. Uncontrolled worries are a thing of the past.

The sense of connection to Gabrielle’s world is comforting and a source of strength. She feels at home in her skin.

She knows that she can handle whatever may come her way.

Saying goodbye is bittersweet, but this is the beginning of the next chapter.
